WOMENS ASIA CUP 2022: The Indian women’s cricket team has won the title by defeating Sri Lanka by 8 wickets in the final of the Women’s Asia Cup 2022. Led by Harmanpreet Kaur, India defeated Sri Lanka by eight wickets in the final of the Women’s Asia Cup 2022 on Saturday, thanks to the explosive half-century of Smriti Mandhana (51 not out). Sri Lanka gave India a target of 66 runs in 20 overs, which India achieved in just 8.3 overs. This was the eighth edition of the Women’s Asia Cup, while this is India’s seventh victory. India has won the Women’s Asia Cup four times in the ODI format, while it has won three times in the T20 format.

Earlier, Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bat in the match played at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, but this decision did not go in their favor at all. After the runout of captain and opener Chamari Atapattu (06) in the third over, the Sri Lankan team lost wickets. Renuka Singh (5/3) dismissed Harshitha Madavi and Hasini Perera in the next over while Anushka Sanjivani was run out. Renuk then dismissed Kavisha Dilhari in the sixth over, dismissing half of Sri Lanka’s team for 16 runs. Rajeshwari Gaekwad (16/2) took the wickets of Nilakshi de Salvi and Oshadi Ranasingh while Sneh Rana (13/2) dismissed Malsha Shehani and Sugandha Kumari. Chasing a target of 66 runs, the Indian team was very eager to win the match.

Fierce opener Smriti Mandhana started playing big shots right from the start. Renuka Singh took three wickets to lay the foundation for India’s victory, while Rajeshwari Gaekwad and Sneh Rana took two wickets each to restrict Sri Lanka to 65 runs. While trying to take India to the target of 66 runs, Shefali Verma (05) and Jemimah Rodrigues (02) got out, but Smriti shared a 36-run partnership for the third wicket with captain Harmanpreet Kaur to give India an easy win. Smriti batted aggressively and scored an unbeaten 51 off 25 balls with six fours and three sixes, while Harmanpreet contributed an unbeaten 11 off 14 balls with one four.
