WEST BENGAL : During Durga Puja immersion, a large number of people had reached Mal river on Wednesday evening in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal to immerse the Durga idol. Suddenly the water level started rising. In such a situation, people got trapped there and soon people started drowning. Many people died due to drowning while about 40 people are reported missing. The National Disaster Response Force team has reached the spot and started rescue. The video of this incident has also surfaced. In the video, many people are seen entering the river for idol immersion. It is clearly visible in the video that suddenly the water level of the river increased, the waves rose so fast that many people got trapped in them and started flowing. The incident took place on Wednesday evening in Mal river in Malbazar area of Jalpaiguri district.
Expressing grief over this accident that occurred during the immersion of Durga idol, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed condolences to the deceased.
