'Phule' finally reached the audience on Friday

MUMBAI: Social activists and social reformers Jyotiba and Savitribai Phule are played by Pratik Gandhi and Patralekha in the biopic. The film was to be released on 11 April on Jyotiba Phule’s 198th birth anniversary.

Meanwhile, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had earlier cleared the film with a U certificate. But then the board asked the makers to re-edit it. Along with this, changes were also asked to be made in many dialogues and scenes. The CBFC was accused of giving instructions to make changes under pressure from organizations.

But in Maharashtra, Hindu Mahasangh, All India Brahmin Samaj and Parashuram Arthik Vikas Mahamandal raised objections to the alleged inappropriate portrayal of Brahmins. After this, the release had to be postponed and many clarifications were sought from the director.
