PM MODI IN PAPUA : PM Modi arrived in Papua New Guinea on Sunday, where he along with his counterpart James Marape will host the third summit of the India-Pacific Islands Cooperation Forum on May 22. Modi has reached Papua New Guinea in the second leg of his three-nation tour. As soon as PM Modi reached Papua New Guinea, a rare sight was seen at Port Moresby Airport. Here PNG Prime Minister James Marape touched Modi’s feet and sought his blessings. On this PM Modi patted him on the back and hugged him. Indian expatriates gave a grand welcome to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea, on Sunday.
Hundreds of people waved the tricolor and raised slogans of ‘Har Har Modi, Ghar Ghar Modi’. PM Modi was also given a guard of honor upon arrival. Official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, Arindam Bagchi, said, ‘Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea on the second leg of his three-nation tour. After completing the one and a half day session in Hiroshima, PM Modi took a 7 and a half hour flight to the port of Papua New Guinea and also talked to them. During this, slogans of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ echoed on the streets of Port Moresby. Hundreds of people of all ages, including small children, had come to meet PM Modi. People were seen with gifts in their hands to meet the Prime Minister. Many people also clicked selfies with PM Modi. Some members of the Indian community handed over a painting of PM Modi and his late mother Hiraben.
First Prime Minister to visit Papua New Guinea
This is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Papua New Guinea. The Prime Minister arrived here from Japan where he attended the G-7 summit and held bilateral meetings with several world leaders.
Modi to host FIPIC summit
Prime Minister Modi and Marape will host the third summit of FIPIC on Monday. Modi had earlier said, ‘I am grateful that all 14 Pacific Island Countries (PICs) have accepted the invitation to participate in this important summit.’ FIPIC was formed in 2014 during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Fiji. Leaders of 14 countries will participate in the FIPIC summit. Generally all of them rarely come together due to connectivity and other issues.
